With its ideas for 77 different projects, the city wants to mitigate climate change in Krefeld, according to the Westdeutsche Zeitung on 05 November 2019

To date, 77 measures comprise the climate protection concept with which Krefeld intends to support the Federal Government in achieving the climate protection targets for 2030 at municipal level.

These include the introduction of climate protection controls by a climate protection management agency by maintaining fresh air corridors kept clear of construction zones, the creation of "pocket parks", the reduction of CO2 emissions, the expansion of urban green areas and the creation of a heat action plan or a warning system to preserve the health of Krefeld residents. The draft still lacks in regard to the area of mobility.

On Tuesday evening, the administration informed the Environment Committee about the current status of the project and presented the Federal Government's report on the key issues as well as the draft for the municipal programme "KrefeldClimate 2030".

Düsseldorf schools and day-care centres awarded environmental bonus

Positive balance after one year of "Winning with energy!" at Düsseldorf schools and kindergartens represents significant savings in electricity, heating energy, water and waste

The balance after one year of the "Win with energy!" programme at schools and day-care centres turns positive. The participants of the programme have achieved considerable savings in electricity, heating energy, water and waste. This became evident at an event at Townhouse on Wednesday, 30 October. In one year, the facilities have saved a total of around 150,000 euros. Half of this amount is distributed to schools and kindergartens.

Jeanette Raschke from the wertsicht consulting firm presented the energy saving results in detail. The schools and kindergartens have achieved this by reducing their electricity consumption by around nine percent and using around seven percent less natural gas and heating oil. As a result, they have protected the climate and emitted 380 tons less carbon dioxide. Water consumption in the facilities was also reduced. It decreased by about 2,300 cubic meters. In addition, twelve facilities have reduced the generation of waste by minimising and separating waste in classes and groups. High Mayor Thomas Geisel praised the exemplary commitment and presented a symbolic cheque to each of the kindergartens, primary and special needs schools as well as secondary schools: "This success was only possible through many small and large activities of children and young people, tutors, teachers and caretakers," praised the High Mayor.

Individual schools and kindergartens demonstrated their commitment. High Mayor Geisel welcomes these climate protection activities: "This saves costs and protects the environment and the climate. In times of 'Fridays for Future' many children particularly appreciate this.”

"Creating climate - for today, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow"

The competition for the state capital's environmental prize is once again looking for landmark projects, this year under the motto "Creating climate - for today, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow".

Perhaps your company also has something worthy of an award at the competition. As companies can apply as well.

The closing date for entries is 31 August.

Whether it's environmental education, energy saving, environmentally friendly transport, sustainable lifestyles and consumption practices, nature and landscape conservation, decontamination of areas and their greening - projects can be submitted from many areas.

In autumn, the jury will review all applications received.

For companies, the reward for exemplary and outstanding commitment to the climate change issue is a premium certificate that High Mayor Thomas Geisel shall award at the end of the year at the Environmental Award Ceremony in the Town Hall.

The award ceremony is generally met with great interest in the media. Well-known companies such as Awista GmbH, Henkel AG & Co. KGaA, Metro Group or Provinzial Versicherungen, as well as a number of smaller companies have already received awards in recent years for their exemplary environmental activities. All information and the application form for the environmental award can be found online at www.duesseldorf.de/umweltamt/projekte/umweltprojektfoerderung.
